This may be the most exciting time in history to be in the retail industry, as competition is fierce and the opportunities to sell are as plentiful as ever, whether online, in-store or through referrals. And for over quarter of a century, GlobalShop has served as a meeting place and resource to advance business owners’ interests.

This year’s conference is expected to deliver as vendors, marketers and suppliers from around the world will descend on the Windy City for an annual event like no other. We here at NGS Printing are in countdown mode and are excited to be attending – in our own backyard, no less.

What’s happening
On June 25, McCormick Place – located just outside of downtown Chicago – will host GlobalShop at Retail X. A three-day affair, it should draw some 1,200 exhibitors worldwide, GlobalShop will feature many of the same showcases that regular attendees have come to enjoy – only bigger and better than ever. Aside from the spacious venue – spanning approximately 400,000 square feet of showroom floor, making it the largest convention center in North America – many of the biggest names in the retail industry will be on hand, including Target, Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Verizon, Macy’s, Kohl’s and Starbucks.

In fact, north of 200 companies from more than two dozen countries are expected, showcasing technology, store decor, fixtures, point-of-purchase displays and new captivating ways to attract attention and capture sales. All parties will be able to take advantage of opportunities that can enhance their marketability and establish key support systems. GlobalShop has canvassed much of the country in previous iterations of the trade show, and this year, Chicago is playing host, a metro area whose retail scene is legendary, home to the Magnificent Mile on Michigan Avenue. McCormick Place is just a few miles away from the iconic shopping distrtict.

What is Retail X?
Retail X is a leading research, analysis and e-commerce services firm that is dedicated to the promotion of the sector’s best interests. A United Kingdom-based firm that launched in 2004, RetailX is largely responsible for bringing together three annual retail events so that they’re literally all under one roof, combining GlobalShop, RFID Journal LIVE! Retail and the Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition.

Angela Gearhart, vice president of brand experience at Sleep Number, said Retail X is an event that she’s had circled on her calendar.

“Retail is everywhere we’re engaging with the customer,” Gearhart said. “So to have a conference that builds that altogether is a much better resource for us.”

From establishing an online presence to honing a social media strategy, the retail sector is in a near constant state of evolution. With more consumers altering their shopping practices, boutiques, shops and big box retailers have been forced to adapt to keep pace with convenience-minded consumers. Thought leaders and keynote speakers will be on hand to go over some of these trends, along with what retailers can expect in the future, based on shopping data and industry surveys. Presenters of note include internationally acclaimed consumer futurist and author Doug Stephens and Andy Dunn, senior vice president of Digital Consumer Brands. Airbnb Strategic Advisor Chip Conley and Framebridge Founder and CEO Sysan Tynan will also address attendees, discussing business management from personnel and sales growth perspectives, respectively.
